Neighborhood Safety
Rice University is a wonderful school that is located within a very large city. Large cities tend to have higher crime rates, and Houston is no exception. Crime maps show the areas that are relatively better or worse from a crime perspective. We believe that safety and security should be a top priority when choosing where to live off-campus.
The Nest on Dryden is located within the highly sought-after neighborhood of Southgate (one of the safest neighborhoods for off-campus Rice Students). To increase safety and security, the neighborhood maintains a private police patrol. The patrol is manned by Houston Police and Harris County peace officers who keep a 24-hour / 365-day watch – protecting the Morningside Place and Southgate (the area bounded east-west between Kirby and Main Streets and north-south between University and Holcombe). The patrol can be reached at (713) 755-7628.
